A refraction is the part of an eye examination which determines your vision and produces a prescription for glasses or contact lenses. You will be placed in front of an instrument containing lenses and dials which you will look through while reading the eye chart. The Doctor will determine your prescription if needed.
Our patients are well educated in their insurance benefits and what their insurance covers. Please make sure you read and understand your coverage. Most plans will separate a well vision exam from a medical exam. If you have no problems and want to have your eyes checked, this would be a well vision exam. If you have complaints or symptoms (Diabetes, dry eyes, an eye infections), this would be a medical exam. Your insurance benefits will tell you whether you have well vision coverage. We do not participate with any vision plans i.e. BlueView Vision, EyeMed, DavisVision, VSP.
A well vision exam is a routine physical for the eyes. Typically, there are no specific (medical) problems other than a need for corrective lenses to see better. The well vision exam performed by the doctors at Connecticut Eye Consultants includes a glaucoma pressure check, a muscle evaluation, observation for external eye disease and examination of the retina in addition to a refraction.
